RBI Players Circuit Update

I’d like to briefly discuss three topics regarding the site:

1.) Account maintenance

2.) Site usage

3.) The 2011 RBI Season ROM

Account maintenance

There are a lot of players who signed up for an account but have yet to play a game. I would like to clean up the site by removing anyone who hasn’t shown any motivation to play a game or two. If you have yet to play a game and do not contact me within a reasonable amount of time, I will delete your account. You will then be able to sign up again should you so desire. This should keep the user list clean and keep the site from filling up with, well, fillers.

Site Usage

Obviously the usage of the site has decreased significantly, most likely due to most of the active players now being part of the online league we’re in the middle of. After season one completes, we will take a break from league play (especially since the football season is nearing and baseball is ending in the net few months). So, don’t get discouraged, and don’t think for a second I’m going to let the RPC die. It is still my preferred method of playing RBI, and I intend to keep it up and make sure that it continues to do its job, and that is to reach more fans of the game and keep it alive. So, stick around, usage will pick up. If it doesn’t, we’ll find a way to make it. If your only obstacle is getting setup, please contact me and I’ll be glad to help out!

The 2011 RBI Season ROM

When the baseball season completes, I’ll be putting together a ROM for 2011 based on the 2010 season. I have things in place to make that happen a lot easier this year, and the same care and effort will be utilized to make it even better than last seasons. My hope is that a new ROM will also spark some interest in the RPC and we’ll see some games rolling in!

RBI Baseball Update

Not much to update lately…the league is goign well, we’re about a quarter of the way through the first season. I’m a lowly5-6, but having a blast. On the ROM front, part of me wants the baseball season to end (partly because my Brewers suck, and partly because I want to start editing up my end of season ROM), and the other part doesn’t want the season to end because baseball is awesome. Either way, a new ROM is coming, hopefully with even more refined ratings…stay tuned for updates as the end of the season approaches.

The RBI Baseball League

I’ve always wanted to start a league for RBI Baseball. It’s part of the reason why I started the RBI Players Circuit. Lots of RBI leagues fail due to incompetent commissioners, poor commitment, etc. The RPC has helped me find a number of guys who seem like they want to play the game and are already setup to do so online. With that, and the success of the NES emulator Nestopia and the P2P online client Kaillera, this is now possible. The league has been formed and the draft has been started. RBI Stats Project

In an effort to make my editing job easier, and because it’s just fun, I’ve started a project that pulls the most recent baseball stats from a source and collects them into a database. I have entered the short, 6 character names by hand, but everything else is automated. I’ve gotten it to the point where I can basically create a ROM that reflects the current stats of all the MLB players in under 5 minutes. While not 100% accurate, it does portray how players are playing at a snapshot in time, and it does provide a good editing base. It will no doubt save me gobs and gobs of time for my all-star break and post-season edits. Cheddar may make hobbies better, but so does technology.

A Quick Check-in

Just a quick check-in to show some activity. I’ve been busy writing an off-line editor similar to Nightwulf’s famous online editor that works with the 30-team ROM. I’ve gotten it into beta state, and included in the latest beta is the ability to have the dirt paths drawn on the field! No more tiny little dirt islands surrounding the bases. This adds a definite amount of modern feel to the game while retaining all of its 8-bit pixelated charm. I will be releasing an update to my 2010 ROM at the all-star break, and this will included the field paths. That’s all for now…thanks for reading!

2010 Preseason ROM

This will be the final week for playtesting on the RBI Baseball 2010 ROM. Myself, as well as a few friends from the Dee-Nee community have been scouring the ROM looking for bugs, any players on the wrong team, adjustments needed for players attributes, tweaking uniforms, and hopefully getting ready to release the final version. I’ve gotten a lot of good feedback about the accuracy and playability of this version, and needless to say I’m very excited for it to be released along with the start of the MLB season. Once it’s released, I’ll set it up as a supported rom for the players circuit. Speaking of which, a number of new faces have started joining and I hope to see you get some games in, and maybe play you myself one of these evenings. Keep it going, and we’ll eventually run a tournament of some sort. If you don’t know what that’s all about, contact me and I’ll be glad to enlighten you, as well as get you setup to play online if you’re not already. I am currently writing an all-inclusive guide on how to set everything up, but in the meantime, I’m available as a resource. Look for TecmoTurd on AOL IM!
